The earliest soccer balls were never round and were hand sewn. Before each match team captains would chose a ball to play with. In one Uruguay and Argentina game, neither captains could decide one what ball to kick off with. It ended up becoming a "you take one, I take one" situation where Uruguay's used there preferred ball in the first half and Argentina's in the second. The worlds first balls heavy lace leather balls were particularly painful. The older balls had vertical stripes, almost resembling the volleyball. Easier to head, new balls are now softer and less painful. In the 1970 world cup manufactures made the soccer balls for TV. The balls black and white design improved visibility on black and white sets. Adidas has provided a ball for every tournament since 1970. The newest balls now are heat sealed with fewer panels. The newest ball for the world cup 2014, called the Brazuca, has gone through many testings in advance from the 2014 world cup.
